The North Carolina Arts Council announces $1,000,000 recurring funding for the Grassroots Arts Program for 2007-2008. Strong emphasises should be qualified symphonies, choral societies, dance companies, writer's groups, arts festivals, theaters and galleries.

The Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes, the local arts council, received $21,958.00 this year. The NC Arts Council encourages the CAC of Wilkes to retain up to 50% council for its arts programs/projects. A representative portion of each county's Grassroots allotment must be spent to support arts programing that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of the county.

The Regional Artist Project Grant for Wilkes, Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany counties to fund individual artists projects was also awarded.

Subgrantee organizations who receive funding from the Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes are required to match the Grassroots funding dollar-for-dollar from donations, corporate contributions and other local sources.

The Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes mission is to foster, promote and increase art awareness in Wilkes and surrounding areas. We appreciate the financial support from the state and regional arts organizations. Their support allows us to offer quality arts to citizens in Wilkes.
